Cat Lady No. 153...Cloud of the Month

Mermaid Cat Lady Anemone and her Cat Fish, Cucumber, sometimes enjoy just floating with a current to see where it takes them. They particularly enjoy floating on their backs and looking for special cloud formations.

Their favorite is what has been dubbed "The Jacques Cousteau Cloud". According to the Cloud Appreciation Society, "since it looks rather like the surface of a choppy sea viewed from below, we gave it the nickname of the ‘Jacques Cousteau cloud’, after the legendary 1970s French diver and ecologist."

Recently, a new Latin name was proposed: "Asperatus"

Read more about it at "The Cloud of the Month" for June. Happy cloud watching!

Cat Lady No. 152...Poetry Reading

Feline Fanatic Heather calls her black cat "Chan" but his real name is Enchantment.

When she first adopted him, she considered the name Minnaloushe, the name of the fabulous feline in the poem "The Cat and the Moon" by William Butler Yeats.

But after some consideration, Heather realized that his nickname would have to be Minnie, and somehow that just wouldn't do for a strapping black he-cat. Chan couldn't agree more.

Cat Lady No. 151...Crazy for Coral

Mermaid Cat Lady Coralee and Finny, her Cat Fish, are crazy about the beautiful coral reef they call home.

Did you know that coral is made up of millions of tiny organisms...According to The Blue Project these tiny organisms are the architects of "ancient habitats which have supported diverse sea life for more than 50 million years. And while these living organisms cover less than 1% of the Earth’s surface, they provide habitats for one out of every four of the world’s marine fishes"

"Today, coral reefs face an unprecedented crisis. In the last thirty years alone, more than 10% of these elaborate ecosystems have been destroyed. What’s more, researchers believe another 60% could perish by 2050 due to reef destruction, pollution, overfishing and climate change—all things within our control. Unless more is done to reverse this trend, entire ecosystems could literally collapse."

Gasp! Coralee and Finny need your help. Please support programs like the Blue Project....just click on the link to find out more...

Cat Lady No. 150...And the Winner Is...

Cat Lady Carina and Calico Cutie Millie would like to announce the winner of the 365 Cat Ladies Giveaway for May. The winner was determined in a highly scientific way...each name was assigned a number and then a computerized random number generator was enlisted to pick a number.

And the winner is: Cat Lady Amy Sisson!

Here was her comment about her favorite teacher: "My most memorable teacher was my high school German teacher in 10th grade. She had started her career as a social studies teacher, but her husband was career Army, so she ended up in Germany and eventually became a German teacher. She encouraged me to apply for an exchange student scholarship -- and I spent my high school junior year in Germany as a result! This inspired a love of languages and travel.

"It also ties in to Cat Lady 141 / Cassie -- because it was in Germany that one of my teachers there got me into reading science fiction, which really changed my life!"

Not only is Amy is the proud adoptive mom to a number of lucky cats, she is also a book reviewer, a librarian, AND a published science fiction writer! Please visit Amy's website and blogs to find out more about this talented Feline Fanatic:

Cat Lady No. 149...In Memory of Samantha Jo

Cat Lady and Vet Tech Deb and her special needs adoptees Skagit, Puget, and Tigger are missing a very special friend. Fantastic Feline Samantha Jo came into Deb's life over 15 years ago and stole her heart. Here is her story:

"She was an awesome little love. Sam was the first cat that I had in my adult life and together we had many life adventures. She came to me as a rescue, found by a five-year-old child who was walking in the woods behind the family farm. I, who was unsure of whether or not, I wanted a cat, because I had a cockatiel at the time, went out to meet her.

"The family had her in a horse barn tucked in a rabbit hutch. For some odd reason, I opened the door, sat down, and called out her name...Sam. She came right to me and sat on my lap and immediately purred. She captured my heart with her big green eyes and the copper spot on the top of her head, which through time, affectionately became known as her 'kissing spot.'

"She adored anything with strings, loved white frosted raspberry filled donuts, and snuggled every night on my lap. The best time of our day was belly massage time.

"Here's to all the wonderful adventures together--I couldn't have had a better friend!"
