Cat Lady Ilamae marvels at how Mr. Rumbles sounds just like a freight train full of gravel when he purrs.
He purrs loudest when he and Ilamae dance in three-four time, and recently Mr. Rumbles won a blue ribbon for the loudest purr at a recent meeting of the Society for the Preservation and Advancement of Waltzing with Cats.
Domestic cats purr in a frequency of 25 to 150 vibrations per second, but there doesn't seem to be any consensus as to how or why cats purr.
Purrcast is a collection of soothing little podcasts that consist of the sound of cats purring. The website includes information on each feline purr-former.
